EASY TO BELIEVE IN GOD

BY

Laura Lee Christian

Fleecy high clouds
moving like water
away up above the puffy white ones
they move quickly in their own current and direction
as if they were sent by God for an important mission
the lower billowy clouds are moving
in the direction directly opposite
such grace in the skys
I wonder where they are going
it would be fun to hop on
and take a ride
white cotton candy
stretched out by eager children
a few pieces lingering behind
only to be taken by the unresistible pull of wind
fleeting images of veins of leaves
flow in the higher levels of the atmosphere
a beautiful pattern to be eternally
printed on waves of my mind
two different rivers flowing side by side
one above the other
with no gravity to move them closer
to the center of the earth,
the rivers move by one another
in perfect freedom
one carrying a cargo of cotton
the other, higher, of angels' hair
the angels' hair moves swiftly
urgently compelled to a place unknown
on the background of a blue sky
their dramatic summer excursion
unfolds
and is witnessed and recorded
by the films of my imagination
if we only looked at the illuminated clouds
more often
we'd find our meaning for life
and find it
easy to believe in God.
